This study offers an in-depth examination of the present condition and future outlook of electric vehicles (EVs) and their charging infrastructure in Nigeria. The study was conducted through a comprehensive review of existing literature, reports and case studies, enabling a detailed analysis of the current state and future opportunities. The findings reveal that Nigeria's electric vehicle charging infrastructure is still in its nascent stages, with a few notable charging stations in major cities like Abuja, Lagos, and Sokoto. The primary challenges identified include high initial costs, lack of infrastructure, limited technical expertise, and regulatory and policy barriers. Despite these challenges, significant opportunities exist for expanding EV charging infrastructure, including strategic placement of new charging stations, integration with renewable energy sources, public-private partnerships, and government incentives. The study highlights the financial and ecological advantages of adopting EVs, such as job creation, decrease in atmospheric pollutants, and cost savings for consumers. The transition to electric mobility can aid in Nigeria's economic development and environmental sustainability. The research concludes with several recommendations, including the need for financial incentives, collaborations between the public and private sectors, capacity building, infrastructure upgrades, and public awareness campaigns. Policy recommendations emphasize the importance of a comprehensive national EV policy, support for renewable energy integration, and research and development initiatives. In summary, this research offers significant perspectives on the advancement of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Nigeria and offers a roadmap for achieving a eco-friendly and effective transportation network. The findings and recommendations can inform policymakers, industry stakeholders, and investors, contributing to the broader goals of environmental sustainability and economic development in Nigeria.
