Code Mixing and Code Switching as an Effective Pedagogical Strategy Approach in Teaching and Learning: A Case Study of French as a Foreign Language in The Yorubaphone Community

This paper examines the role of language teachers and the instructional strategies used in delivering 
the subject matter in their classrooms. It is also aims to address the perception of neglecting the use of 
indigenous languages in classroom instruction. Thus, the study advocates the use of code-mixing and 
code-switching pedagogies as an instructional approach to enhance teaching effectiveness and learner 
comprehension. A descriptive survey design was used to examine the teaching practices of selected 
lecturers and students were also interviewed through semi-structured interviews in conducting the 
study in Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo State, Nigeria. This is the scope of the study.
