English in South Africa is the official means of communication, along with other autochthonous languages. English has a number of social advantages and is a means of universal communication for the numerous ethnic groups inhabiting South Africa. In our research work, the phenomenon of “code switching” is analyzed using the example of the white and colored parts of the South African population. Afrikaans is the native language of white South Africans, this language is also spoken by the colored part of the population, which is maximally oriented towards the linguistic and cultural values of white South Africans. It is proved that the code switching in the Afrikaans-English bilingual environment reflects the features of the mixed code and retains a clear correlation between the use of the English code and belonging to the new South African values. It has been proved that the most productive ways of code switching in the speech of white and colored South Africans are lexical inclusions, lexical analogues, congruent lexicalization.
