Community Disaster Resilience in Nigeria

This study examines community disaster resilience in Nigeria. It explores the definition, types, and impacts of disasters, as well as the concept of community and cases of disasters across Nigerian cities. The study further discusses community disaster resilience through the three overlapping coping capacities: absorbability, adaptability, and transformability. It highlights the crucial roles played by key community actors; household heads, community leaders, and community-based organizations in enhancing disaster resilience. The study concluded that policymakers should work more closely with community actors in order to strengthen disaster resilience in Nigeria.   Received: 11 May  2026 / Accepted: 30 June  2026 / Published: July 2026
