Abstract
This study examines the current trends in political news blogging in Nigeria and addresses the challenges faced by political news bloggers in providing accurate, unbiased, and accountable information to the public. The study was hinged on Democratic-Participant Media theory. Through a comprehensive analysis of the rise of social media as a platform for political news blogging, the use of multimedia in content creation, and the emergence of citizen journalism, this research sheds light on the dynamic landscape of political news dissemination in Nigeria. The study reveals the increasing popularity of live streaming among Nigerian political news bloggers, allowing them to provide real-time coverage of political events and engage their audience. Additionally, the study explores the collaborative reporting between political news bloggers and mainstream media organizations, as well as the adoption of mobile journalism techniques for on-the-go reporting. The study uncovers challenges faced by political news bloggers, including sensationalism, bias, censorship and government regulation; the proliferation of fake news and misinformation, limited funding and resources. To address these challenges, the study recommends strategies such as promoting media literacy, fostering collaborations between bloggers and media organizations, establishing fact-checking initiatives, and advocating for policies that protect press freedom and the safety of bloggers.
