Cryptophleps namibica sp. nov. (Figs 1–6) Type material. HOLOTYPE ♂, Namibia: Katima Mulilo Dist., Ndopu village, near Bukalo, 17˚43.660′S, 24˚32.106′E, 20–23.ii. 2012, 900 m, A.H. Kirk-Spriggs, Malaise traps, degraded sand forest & cultivated plots (BMSA). PARATYPES: 6 ♂, 4 ♀, same label (BMSA, ZIN). Diagnosis. Face broad in both sexes, about 2 times higher than wide in middle, narrowed in middle and bulging below in male, nearly parallel-sided in female; antenna with scape yellow, pedicel brownish yellow, postpedicel brownish black; wing vein dm–cu absent; halter yellow; legs yellow except apical tarsomeres. The new species is close to C. kerteszi, differing in colour of antenna and hind basitarsus (black in C. kerteszi), and in hypopygium morphology. Etymology. The species is named after the country of Namibia, where the type material was collected. Description. Male (Fig. 1): Head: distinctly wider than high (Fig. 2); antenna with yellow scape, brownish yellow pedicel and brownish black postpedicel; postpedicel rounded, as long as high; arista-like stylus blackish brown, subapical, 2.8 times longer than antennomeres combined; shortly pubescent; length ratio of scape to pedicel to postpedicel to stylus (segments 1 and 2): 4/4/ 7/2/42; frons densely white pollinose, narrowed towards antenna, about twice wider than high; eyes finely setulose; face broad, bulging, densely white pollinose; ratio of face height to width below antenna to width at middle to clypeus width: 29/18/12 |19; clypeus indistinct; palpus large, elongateovate, about ⅔ as long as height of face, yellow, with short white pubescence; proboscis narrow, as long as palpus, brown; postocular setae white, lower postocular setae rather long, multiseriate. Thorax: black, with metallic blue reflection, with light dusting of grey pruinosity; all setae white; pronotum sparsely pubescent; proepisternum with 1–2 short setae just above base of fore coxa; acrostichal setae absent; 4 strong dorsocentral setae present; scutellum with marginal setae absent. Legs: mostly yellow, fore coxa blackish basally, mid and hind coxae black, except apices, tarsi blackish from tip of basitarsus, all setulae and setae white; all tarsi without claws and with enlarged pulvilli. Fore leg. Coxa bearing ca. 8 fine setae anteriorly, femur simple, ventrally bare, tibia with 1–2 short apical setae. Mid leg. Coxa bearing some setae anteriorly, femur with anteroventral and posteroventral rows of setae, about as long as femur height, tibia with 2 pairs of short dorsal setae, with 2–3 apicoventral setae. Hind leg. Coxa bearing 1 strong seta at basal ⅓, femur with anteroventral row of setae in distal ½, about as long as femur height, few posteroventral subapical setae and row of anterodorsal setae medially, tibia inconspicuously thickened at basal ⅓, with short dorsal and apical setae. Femur, tibia and tarsomere (from first to fifth) length ratio (in mm): fore leg: 0.63/0.57/0.29/0.15/0.12/0.9/0.9, mid leg: 0.68/0.73/0.38/0.21/0.16/0.1/0.09, hind leg: 1.52/1.66/0.52/0.64/0.39/ 0.30/0.18. Wing (Fig. 3): 2.7 times longer than wide; membrane hyaline, veins yellow; crossvein r–m faint; vein M weak in distal ⅔ and broken at distal ⅓; crossvein dm–cu absent; CuA1 weak in distal ½; lower calypter pale yellow with fan of white setae; anal angle and alula reduced; halter pale yellow. Ratio of costal sections beginning from humeral vein (in mm): 0.55/0.69/0.25, ratio of vein M sections beginning from r–m to length of CuA1 (in mm): 0.91/0.52/0.93. Abdomen: bluish black, grey pollinose, with white setulae and setae; postabdomen black; segment 6 without setae, with microscopic cilia; segment 7 greatly reduced, located within segment 6; segment 8 large, rounded, with 10–12 short setae along margin. Male terminalia: hypopygium (Fig. 4) large, partly concealed; epandrium flattened laterally, with left lateral foramen; hypandrium fused with epandrium, simple, short; phallus long and thin, simple; epandrial lobe large, subtriangular, with 3 short setae; surstylus bilobate; ventral lobe of surstylus gradually narrowed towards apex, bearing some short setae; dorsal lobe narrow, straight, more than ½ as long as ventral lobe, bearing short apical seta; postgonite bilobate, narrow, curved ventrally, reaching middle of surstylus; cercus small, usually concealed, rounded, bearing short setae, with small tubercle distally. Measurements: body length: 2.0 mm, antenna length: 0.6 mm, wing length: 1.9 mm, wing width: 0.7 mm. Female (Fig. 5): similar to male, except clypeus distinct, low; palpus small, 1.5 times longer than height of clypeus, brownish yellow, grey pollinose, with short pale setulae (Fig. 6); tarsi with claws; ovipositor divided into 2 acanthophorites, each bearing 4 strong setae. Measurements: body length: 2.1 mm, wing length: 2.0 mm.
