ASSESSOR is a cell-free synthetic biology platform for field-deployable arsenic detection. The system integrates an arsenic-responsive transcriptional amplifier, an arsenic reduction module for As(V)-to-As(III) conversion, a portable paper-based colorimetric assay, and a smartphone-assisted image analysis pipeline for quantitative readout. By combining cell-free biosensing with machine-learning-assisted color interpretation, ASSESSOR enables portable, low-cost, and user-friendly arsenic analysis in environmental water samples.
