DATA ETHICS IN PRACTICE: DATA CLINIC ON AI IN FINTECH ACROSS AFRICA

Data clinics are an interactive collaboration and teaching format designed to bridge theory and practice in the field of data governance and ethics. They run as part of the teaching program in the Chair for Philosophy and History of Science and Technology in the School of Social Sciences and Technology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), as part of the activities of the Ethical Data Initiative (EDI).

This poster shares selected information and results from the data clinic run in 2025 on the topic of ethical issues in the use of AI in Fintech across Africa. It is primarily intended to illustrate the data clinic format in practice and the kinds of analyses and proposals students may produce in the concrete situation.

Secondarily, the poster also shares selected results from the data clinic.

The poster emerges from the Masters course 'Data Ethics and Governance' run at the TUM in Summer semester 2025. The ethical challenge was provided by the Center for Law and Innovation at the CERTA Foundation, Rwanda.

The poster sets out the data clinic format, the detail of the ethical challenge, and selected results produced by the students on areas around data collection and management, fairness, and transforming challenges into opportunities.
