Due to its geopolitical position and oil production, the Middle East has always been the trump card in the game, both before World War II and during the Cold War, still today. The data show that being an ex-French colony or ex-British colony worsens the Fragile States Index score. The artificial frontier sparked not only wars against Israel, but also conflicts within Arab countries. The results are consistent with shatterbelt theory in geopolitics.
