Decolonising Climate Finance: An African-Led Approach to Financial Sovereignty and Climate Governance

This article examines climate finance as a question of governance, sovereignty, and justice. It argues that Africa's climate-finance challenges are not only about funding gaps, but also about who controls financial instruments, project priorities, institutional rules, and adaptation pathways. The article proposes climate-finance sovereignty as a framework for strengthening African-led institutions, regional capital mobilisation, direct access, community-centred adaptation, and fairer global climate-finance governance.
