
Abstract
Agriculture is a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economy, yet farmers face persistent
challenges in market access and efficient distribution. This study designs and implements
”Farmers Market,” a JavaScript-based e-commerce platform to connect
farmers directly with farm produce distributors, reducing post-harvest losses and
expanding market reach. Developed using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and
MySQL, the platform features a device-agnostic interface, multilingual support,
and secure transaction protocols. Key functionalities include product listing, order
management, and post-delivery feedback, with administrators ensuring seamless operations.
Performance evaluations through simulated transactions with 1,000 concurrent
users demonstrated 93% accuracy, 95% interactivity, and 1.5-second load
times, outperforming platforms like Magento and Shopify. The platform enables rural
farmers to submit product codes via text, bypassing smartphone requirements.
Applications span local and cross-border trade, with potential to revolutionize Nigeria’s
agricultural supply chain. Future enhancements include offline functionality
and AI-driven demand forecasting, positioning the platform as a transformative
tool for sustainable agribusiness.
