Many countries like Nigeria who have the difficulties of global warming, economic hardship, poverty, insecurity, etc. have a high rate of health challenges. One of the health challenges that people are facing in the world today is heart disease which is increasing every year. The devices available in hospitals are hefty and costly, and they are only available in the ICUs (intensive care unit) of hospitals. This is a proposed innovative project that evaded such problems by using IoT based patient health monitoring system which made up of sensors, a data acquisition unit, a microcontroller (i.e., ESP32), and software. This IoT based patient health monitoring system was built using a temperature sensor (DS18B20), (ECG) electro-cardiogram sensor, and Pulse rate sensor attached to an ESP32 microcontroller. Patient heart beat was measured by using pulse sensor which took data from the blood flows at the index finger for 60 sec. and body temperature data was taken using ds18b20 sensor. The ECG(AD8232) module was used to check the activity of heart graphically. All data was received by esp32 and Esp32 sent the data to the cloud (ThingSpeak). The servers then compute the data which can be displayed on handheld devices. If the patient health issue is at critical state, the system will send notification messages to the doctor/family members through pushover/telegram platform. The result showed that the device can be deployed successfully in hospitals. The system has reduced in weight and size compared to the traditional system. Due to the low cost, light weight and availability of the sensors, casing and microcontroller, an IoT based patient health monitoring system was developed. This project can be improved by improvising the use of wearable devices/smart devices.
