DETERMINANTS OF INSTITUTIONAL REPOSITORY UTILISATION AMONG LECTURERS: THE ROLES OF COPYRIGHT KNOWLEDGE AND INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORTS

This study examined the copyright knowledge and institutional support factors as predictors of use of institutional repository by lecturers in the Ambrose Alli University. It included two main aspects: how well lecturers are familiar with copyright and the extent to which they are supported by the institution. A survey was distributed to 213 lecturers and the data collected were analysed in terms of descriptive statistics, simple linear regression, and multiple regression. Results indicated that the copyright knowledge of lecturers was low with the grandmean score of 2.34, institutional support was high (Grandmean score of 3.32), awareness plus IR use were moderate with the overall mean scores of 2.88 and 2.75. Both copyright knowledge (B = 0.42, b = 0.46, p < 0.001, R2 = 0.213) and institutional support (B = 0.53, b = 0.54, p < 0.001, R2 = 0.290) were independently associated with the use of IR. The variance explanation of the combined model was 47% (R = 0.686, R2 = 0.470, Adjusted R2 = 0.465, F(2,174) = 52.81, p < 0.001). the study concluded that strong institutional support and improved copyright knowledge are keys to effective and efficient use of IR in any institutions. Recommendations were made to include university providing targeted copyright training for staff on the use of IR, enhance the support of librarians and conduct awareness campaigns to promote a sustained engagement with the IR among others.
