Nigeria is a linguistically diverse country, boasting over 500 indigenous languages with a population of approximately 233.6 million, according to the United Nations. However, a significant gap exists in smart home automation systems that support native languages, limiting accessibility for speakers of major languages like Yorùbá, Igbo, and Hausa, which account for 25.00%, 21.00%, and 18.00% of the population, respectively. Current systems primarily rely on English, creating a barrier for those who prefer interacting with technology in their indigenous languages. This work aims to address this gap by developing a home automation system controlled via voice commands in Yorùbá, Igbo, and Hausa. The development process involved designing the circuit using Proteus, integrating the Google Voice API into a web application for voice recognition, and establishing a Firebase database to store socket states. The microcontroller was programmed using Arduino IDE to process voice commands and communicate with the Firebase database, enabling real-time control of home appliances. The outcome of this comprehensive analysis and implementation demonstrated that the system achieved an average voice recognition accuracy of 92.00%. The system was able to reliably recognize and execute orders in Yorùbá, Igbo, and Hausa, including turning on and off appliances. This project not only fills a critical gap in the smart home market but also enhances accessibility for speakers of indigenous languages, making home automation more inclusive and user-friendly.
