Digital Health Records Adoption in Uganda: A Review of Maternal Healthcare Implementations

Digital health records (DHRs) have become increasingly important in improving maternal healthcare outcomes in developing countries like Uganda. The analysis draws from secondary sources including government reports, academic papers, and interviews conducted by local NGOs. Adoption rates varied significantly across different health facilities, with some reaching up to 80% in urban clinics. Data security improvements were mixed, with most facilities experiencing data breaches or loss. While DHRs have the potential to revolutionize maternal healthcare in Uganda, widespread adoption and robust security measures are crucial for their effective implementation. Healthcare providers should prioritise training staff on secure data handling practices and invest in technology upgrades to enhance data protection.
