Digital ≠ Paperless: innovative interfaces for digital health information management

Health-E-Net has pioneered an innovative, low-cost innovation to collect routine healthcare delivery data in digital form. The paper-to-digital approach involves the use of rubber stamps, paper and a computer vision application on mobile phones. This approach has demonstrated both improvements in clinical documentation ( doi.org ) and quality of primary healthcare delivery in low-resource settings ( gh.bmj.com ). Health-E-Net is currently contracted by Migori County in Kenya to delivery digital information on all deliveries in the county using a modified version of WHO's Safe Childbirth Checklist (SCC). The mSCC forms and have been developed and deployed in 12 county and sub- county hospitals, and clinical staff trained to digitise information entered in the forms. The same approach has been deployed to support CHW screening for hypertension in Malawi.
