Abstract Purpose: This paper provides a comprehensive empirical review of emerging technologies in library and information services delivery with a specific focus on young Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals in Nigeria. Methodology: Drawing from eleven empirical and semi-empirical studies conducted in Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana between 2020 and 2025, the review examines the availability, awareness, adequacy, accessibility, utilisation, and challenges of emerging technologies in service delivery. Findings: Although tools such as mobile technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, cloud-based repositories, and discovery systems are increasingly available, their adoption and impact on service delivery remain constrained by infrastructure deficiencies, funding inadequacies, and limited professional competence. Young LIS professionals demonstrate greater adaptability and a stronger willingness to engage with new technologies than their older colleagues, yet they often lack institutional support and systematic training. Cross-country comparisons reveal that stronger policy frameworks and institutional investments in Ghana and South Africa contribute to better integration of emerging technologies than in Nigeria. Conclusion: The review concludes that young LIS professionals in Nigeria are a critical demographic for driving digital transformation in libraries, provided they are adequately supported with infrastructure, funding, policies, and training. Recommendations are offered for policymakers, institutions, and professional associations.
