Digital transformation is redefining how academic libraries acquire, organise, preserve and deliver
information. In Nigerian state-owned universities, however, the conversion of isolated
technologies into dependable, user-centred services remains uneven. This study examined the
influence of digital transformation on academic library serviceability in the three state-owned
universities in Bayelsa State: Niger Delta University, University of Africa, Toru-Orua, and
Bayelsa Medical University. Digital transformation was operationalised through three
dimensions: digital infrastructure adequacy, librarians' digital competence, and digital service
integration. A correlational survey design was adopted. Because the article is a methodological
demonstration rather than a report of completed fieldwork, a clearly labelled simulated dataset of
240 valid library-user responses was generated to reflect plausible response patterns across the
three institutions. The Digital Transformation and Library Serviceability Questionnaire contained
24 items measured on a four-point scale. Simulated reliability coefficients ranged from .82 to .88.
Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation and simple and multiple regression were used, and all
numerical analyses are reported in tables. Results indicated moderate digital infrastructure,
relatively stronger staff digital competence, moderate digital service integration and moderate-to
high library serviceability. Digital infrastructure significantly predicted serviceability (R² = .299,
β = .547, p < .001); digital competence significantly predicted serviceability (R² = .361, β = .601,
p < .001); and digital service integration was the strongest bivariate predictor (R² = .443, β = .666,
p < .001). Jointly, the three dimensions explained 54.8% of the simulated variance in
serviceability. The study concludes that technology acquisition alone is insufficient: infrastructure
must be reliable, librarians must possess applied digital capabilities, and systems must be
integrated into end-to-end user journeys. Recommendations include protected digital-library
funding, continuous competency-based training, unified discovery and authentication, remote
reference services, accessibility standards, service analytics and institutional digital
transformation governance. The findings are illustrative and must not be represented as
observations from real participants; they provide a defensible template for a future field study in
Bayelsa State.
