Abstract This study examined the influence of digital transformation on the strategic management process in selected private universities in South-West Nigeria from the perspective of academic staff. A quantitative cross-sectional survey design was used. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire administered to academic staff at four private universities, yielding 556 valid responses for analysis. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and linear regression models were applied. The findings showed that all four dimensions of digital transformation had positive and statistically significant effects on the strategic management process. Big data analytics significantly influenced environmental scanning, predictive analytics influenced strategy formulation, workflow automation influenced strategy implementation, and Business Intelligence Tools influenced Strategy evaluation and control. Notably, workflow automation emerged as the strongest predictor of strategy implementation (β = 0.721, p < 0.001), explaining 52.5% of the variance, underscoring its critical role in enhancing operational efficiency and execution effectiveness within Nigerian private universities. The study concludes that digital transformation strengthens strategic management processes and supports the achievement of SDG 4 by enhancing the quality, efficiency, and practical relevance of higher education in Nigerian private universities.
