I am a development microeconomist with interests in firm and household level analysis. In this current article, we answer the question; Whether the performance of a firm that is domestically owned, will improve once such a firm is acquired by a foreign investor. Utilizing regression and matching and Difference-in-Difference estimation methods, we confirm that firm performance in post acquisition periods is better than in the pre-acquisition period especially for wages. We provide evidence from a small economy, Ghana in Sub-Saharan Africa.
