This article examines the career contributions of one of Botswana's foremost educationists, Dr Daniel Rakgomo Tau, within the broader development of higher education in Botswana. It argues that his professional trajectory, from secondary school leadership to national policy engagement and executive leadership in open and distance learning, reflects the evolution of post-colonial education in Botswana. Particular attention is given to his role in the establishment and growth of the Botswana College of Distance and Open Learning, which was later transformed into the Botswana Open University, as a key institution in expanding access to education.
