This dataset provides a high-resolution surface water map for northern Nigeria based on satellite images from December 2021 and December 2023, just before the dry season begins. It shows the location of rivers, lakes, reservoirs, irrigation canals, and ponds at 5-meter resolution. The map was created using satellite data from Planet (NICFI program) and Sentinel-2, processed in Google Earth Engine using a supervised classification approach. This upload currently covers only northern Nigeria; a matching surface water dataset for the southern part of the country will be uploaded soon. Both zipped folders contain 22 tiles (~200km*200km each) of the northern part of Nigeria. Those rasters have binary classification (0: non-water pixel, 1: surface water) at 5 m resolution.
