Abstract
This paper presents a new paradigm for early childhood mathematics education grounded in the symbolic and geometric logic of the Mandombe script. Traditional African symbolic systems encode spatial symmetry, recursion and balance, which correspond to core mathematical concepts such as transformation, ratio, mirroring and pattern recognition. The study was conducted with 120 preschool learners aged five to seven in Kinshasa and Kongo Central. A Mandombe-based pedagogy was applied in ten weeks of regular classroom sessions combining visual writing practice, rhythmic counting and simple shape manipulation tasks. A control group received standard numeracy activities without symbolic geometry. The intervention group demonstrated measurable gains in numeracy, spatial reasoning and symbolic abstraction when compared with controls, with an average increase of approximately thirty one percent on the composite score. The results suggest that early symbolic geometry can serve as an accessible foundation for mathematical thought and that Mandombe writing provides a culturally grounded structure for introducing numerical concepts, cognitive organisation and rule-based reasoning at an early age.
