Hen
We share here a database system developed for ecological restoration. It was first developed in 2009 in Seychelles, and the latest development is from 2023 when we moved the system to Open Foris Arena. It can be applied for any region of the world and focusses on raw data collection and management from the propagules collection to site preparation and tree planting or monitoring.
This dataset contains:
-the Open Foris Arena 'ecoresto' survey design (which can be used to create your own copy)
-an R Markdown script that compiles the data exported from Arena to csv files into a shiny app (available here with our data from Seychelles: bsenterre.shinyapps.io). It includes the compilation of results to the Global Restore Project format (GRP, "the world's first open-source database for restoration ecology").
-a user guide
This is a work in progress: the Rmd script needs some cleaning; the user guide needs some updates to integrate the latest changes in the survey design. But altogether, we believe that this might be helpful to other trying to develop their own solution for data collection and management in the field of ecological restoration.
Note also that we are considering this material for a publication.
