Effect of Electronic Money Transfer System on Public Sector Performance in Nigeria

The study examined the effect of electronic money transfer system on public sector performance in Nigeria. Specifically, the study examined the effect of Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) on prompt payment of salary to public sector workers in Nigeria. It examined the effect of IPPIS on elimination of ghost workers in the Nigeria public service, and it examined the effect of IPPIS on public sector performance in Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population of this study comprised 2100 staff and non-teaching staff in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State and sample size was 336 respondents. The major instrument that was adopted by the researcher is the questionnaire. The stated hypotheses were analysed with simple regression. The findings of the study revealed that IPPIS has positive but insignificant effect on prompt payment of salary of workers in Nigeria, IPPIS has positive and significant effect on elimination of ghost workers in Nigeria and IPPIS has positive and significant effect on public sector performance in Nigeria. It was recommended that IPPIS platform should further be strengthened to curb excessive complaints of irregularities on payment of workers salaries. A more sophisticated approach should be adopted for accurate figures and transparency in the system.
