Tests are frequently used as a synonym for evaluation. However, performing tests is also a learning strategy that promotes more retention of the studied content when compared to rereading the content (retrieval practice) or testing effect. Its benefit is seen in several areas, including language teaching. In teaching a second language, retrieval practice promotes greater retention of new vocabularies. However, it is still unclear when the best moment to apply it in the classroom. This research aims to investigate the effects of two moments of retrieval practice in language teaching (40 words in Swahili), with half of the words tested on the same day and the other half on the following day. We will use seven days of retention interval to carry out the final test. As a result, it is expected to assess which of the moments will generate the best performance in the final test.
