Electric Cooking In Kenya

Kenya has 85% electricity coverage with close to 0% electric cooking. It is estimated 13.6MtCO2e of GHG is emitted from the cooking fuel with HAP responsible for 21560 deaths every year. The onstove tool uses cost benefit analysis to estimate the net benefit of various cooking solution. With the tool, two scenarios were ran to get the maximum benefit of adopting electric cooking. The social Scenario with maximum benefit of environment estimated about 76% adopting electric solution with maximum health benefit, environmental benefit, 48.50MtCO2e avoided and high time savings. Removing all the environmental and health spillage the private scenario adopted 87% LPG with 0% electricity since Kenya energy mix comprises of clean energy. These scenarios shows Kenya has a great potential of adopting electric cooking with great support of relevant stakeholders.
