This comprehensive literature review critically examines the role of copyright law in protecting brand content in Zambia's corporate sector. Synthesising scholarly perspectives from developed economies, developing nations, and regional African contexts, the review reveals a significant disjuncture between legislative frameworks and practical enforcement mechanisms, particularly in developing economies. While developed nations have evolved sophisticated copyright frameworks that strategically integrate branding assets into comprehensive intellectual property portfolios, developing countries continue to confront persistent challenges, including limited stakeholder awareness, weak enforcement infrastructure, and institutional capacity constraints. The Zambian context vividly illustrates these challenges, with the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act (1994) remaining outdated and under-resourced enforcement mechanisms limiting effective brand protection. This review identifies critical research gaps, particularly the need for empirical investigation into copyright's strategic value for corporate branding in Zambia, and concludes that strengthening copyright protection requires legal reform, institutional capacity building, enhanced public awareness, and regional collaboration to support economic growth and brand competitiveness. The review offers theoretical contributions to intellectual property scholarship while providing practical implications for policymakers, corporate leaders, and legal practitioners operating in developing economy contexts.
