Abstract This chapter contains a newly crafted English translation and International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) transcription of a poem by prolific poet and former cultural attaché to the South African Embassy in The Hague (Netherlands), Dr. Erlank Eitemal. Eitemal is also recognized for translating classics such as Macbeth, Faust, and Don Carlos, among others, into Afrikaans. “A Time to Dream” is scored for medium-low/medium voice. It was set to music by composer Judith Brent-Wessels. This song is published in the anthology “Love’s Grief: A Collection of Afrikaans Art Songs” compiled by Anna Bender. Illuminating footnotes are provided to enhance the reader’s comprehension of the unique biodiversity of the Southern African landscape and multicultural distinctiveness of its people. Lyric diction recommendations are provided for best practices for singing in Afrikaans. Topics include love, longing, dreams, birds, and nature.
