Provision of timely and reliable agrometeorological information is essential for enhancing climate change adaptation and improving agricultural productivity among smallholder farmers. However, limited understanding of farmers’ perceptions and utilisation of agrometeorological services constrains their effective application in farming activities. This study assessed farmers’ perceptions and utilisation of agrometeorological services in Manyoni District, Tanzania. Specifically, it identified available services, examined farmers’ perceptions of the reliability and accuracy of agrometeorological information, and evaluated its applicability in crop selection and pest management. A case study design employing both quantitative and qualitative approaches was used. Data were collected through household surveys, focus group discussions, key informant interviews, and field observations from 99 households selected using Yamane’s formula. Quantitative data were analysed using SPSS version 20 and Microsoft Excel, while qualitative data were analysed through content analysis. The findings revealed that seasonal weather forecasts, daily forecasts, early warning information, and advisory services were the major agrometeorological services available. Farmers’ perceptions differed significantly between Chikuyu and Makanda villages (χ² = 17.92, p < 0.001), with higher trust reported in Chikuyu due to clearer communication and improved dissemination systems. Agrometeorological services were applied in determining planting time, crop rotation and diversification, pest and disease management, and harvesting decisions. The study concludes that clear communication, local relevance, and consistency with farmers’ experiences enhance trust and utilisation of agrometeorological information. Strengthening dissemination systems and communication strategies could improve the effective use of these services among smallholder farmers.
