This study evaluated the effectiveness of corporate sector resilience initiatives in ensuring business survival in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environment, focusing on Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE)-listed companies during the COVID-19-affected trading period of March to December 2020. As 21st-century VUCA environments increasingly pressure business survival, the study sought to verify the impact of various resilience initiatives on mitigating VUCA’s adverse effects. Using SPSS v.20 bivariate analysis, the study established a correlation between resilience initiatives and business survival. The mixed-methods approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative analyses, found that resilience initiatives were common among ZSE companies during the studied period. These initiatives were largely inevitable, significantly effective, and crucial to business survival in a VUCA environment. Other factors besides resilience initiatives were also significant for ZSE firms’ survival. The study suggests that creating inclusive business resilience educational forums and empowering local businesses with strategic resilience tools can boost investor confidence and business continuity in future VUCA episodes
