This paper evaluated the role of organisational commitment on job satisfaction and turnover
intention in first bank of Nigeria. The motivation for the study was inspired by the high rate of
turnover among staff of First Bank Nigeria Plc in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau
State. Four research questions and Four hypotheses guided the study. A sample of 152 respondents
was determined using Krejcie and Morgan Table from a population of 262 staff of First Bank
Nigeria Plc in Jos North Local Government Area. The sample size was drawn using the simple
random sampling technique. Survey research design was adopted in the study and data was
collected using questionnaires. The data collected in the study was analysed using PLS SEM via
SMARTPLS 4. The findings of the study revealed that employees’ organizational commitment has
an explanatory role in the relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intention. The results
of the indirect relationship revealed organisational commitment has negative significant
relationship with turnover intention This implies that an increase in the level of employees’
organizational commitment will lead to a decrease in the level of employees’ turnover intention.
Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that management of First banks should
increase employees’ organisaitonal commitment by increasing the level of organizational support
available to employees, offer more career development opportunities to employees and foster
positive work culture through effective communication and feedback.
