The main purpose of this study was identifyfactors affecting attitude and performance of students in physics in Digeluna Tijo Wereda secondary schools . To achieve the objective mixed research method were employed. From the total population of students in the four high school 237 students were selected by random sampling technique ,in addition 10 educational experts from the wereda educational office,14 physics teachers, 4 principals, 4 vice principals, 2 secondary school supervisor, 4 librarian and 1 laboratory technician were selected. Questionnaires, interview and formal observation were major data collecting instruments.. Data collected from the field were coded and entered into the computer for analysis using spss version 20 for windows. The results of the data analysis were presented using percentage and mean. The study reveal that even if there is much emphasis on improving students academic achievement, still no considerable progress has been observed in the study area. According to the key finding of this study, physical environment and school facilities like library , laboratory, guidance and counseling , instruction facilities, teacher qualification and training, teacher experience, teachers attitude towards their job, parent involvement were found to be a contributing factors for these patterns as well as low achievement in physics in secondary school in the study area. To alleviate the prevailing problems there is a need to upgrade and check the professional quality of teachers since good school facilities, small size class room and other adequate resources alone cannot yield good results. Therefore it was suggested that teachers, parents, principals and Sagure education Bureau should be more practical in this area of improvement. 4
