This protocol specifies a systematic literature review of empirical evidence on the flood performance of road and bridge infrastructure in Sub-Saharan Africa, with Malawi treated as an illustrative case. Five questions address the adequacy of the design rainfall basis, the failure mechanisms reported at damaged crossings, how the cost of corridor closure has been valued, the institutional constraints on delivering drainage and maintenance, and the distribution of the evidence across countries, asset types and settings. Reporting follows PRISMA-P 2015 and, on completion, PRISMA 2020. Eligibility, search strings, evidence tiers, screening, extraction, appraisal and synthesis are all pre-specified.
