The data was collected through Focus group discussions  and approval was obtained from local authorities, the Ministry of Agriculture through the Department of Agriculture Extension Services (DAES), FAO Representative, and the Faculty of Health Sciences Research Ethics Committee of the University of Pretoria. The study approval number is NAS298/2024. Verbal consent for human participants were obtained. The participants were oriented that withdraw from participation anytime they feel so. To maintain the confidentiality of data, data anonymization- information was treated with confidentiality in a manner that codes were used to identify responded other than names and personal identifiable information (PII) was removed when necessary. Data storage was accompanied by unique and strong passwords known to the researchers only and was not shared by anyone except the University and the funders. 

The study was conducted in accordance to the Declaration of Helsinki in 1964 on ethical principles involving human subjects. This study involved human subjects using household survey data and qualitative interviews collected under the AFIKEPO Project. All data were obtained using standardized procedures that ensure voluntary participation, informed consent, and confidentiality. The study protocol was reviewed and approved by the appropriate review committee, and the research was classified as human subjects’ research.
