Football Chants And Youth Political Behavior In Algeria (case Study: Hirak Protests)

Abstract in English language: Football chants make an integral part of the game; their sense can in one hand describe highlights moments on the pitch. But on the other hand, these chants seem to represent also a space for fans to express themselves in a collective way, most often their involvement with socio-political conditions. This study attempts to zoom-in on the Algerian case, where football has been interplayed with politics through different time stages of the country. The study seeks to understand how young fans have found in football a space to manifest their political behavior using chants in terraces. These chants have reached their zenith when they where discernibly repeated by protestors of the Hirak movement which started in February 2019
