Title: Foundations of Psychodesign: Clinical, Cultural, and Environmental Integration for Healing Architecture
Abstract:
Psychodesign is an emerging discipline that fuses clinical psychiatry, environmental psychology, and cultural anthropology to transform built environments into catalysts of collective healing and social cohesion. Drawing from multi-site studies in Kinshasa, Nkamba, and Paris, this research demonstrates that culturally aligned and trauma-sensitive spatial interventions produce measurable improvements in stress regulation, heart-rate variability, and community engagement.
The methodology integrates biometric and psychometric measures with cultural cartographies and participatory co-design, producing reproducible outcomes across diverse contexts. Results confirm a 35–70% reduction in stress markers and a significant rise in social trust where psychodesign protocols were applied.
Psychodesign merges neuroarchitectural evidence, decolonial theory, and adaptive AI modeling, to position culture and identity as structural parameters of health-oriented design. The findings establish psychodesign as a clinically grounded, culturally anchored, and globally scalable scientific discipline, redefining how space mediates psychological resilience and collective identity.

This paper introduces psychodesign as the first unified clinical–cultural framework for architectural design, bridging psychiatry, environmental psychology, and African epistemologies. It operationalizes trauma-informed and culturally resonant spatial variables (symbolic geometry, light rhythm, soundscape) as measurable design parameters.
The research expands neuroarchitectural methods beyond Western contexts by demonstrating psychophysiological and social impacts of culturally aligned interventions in postcolonial environments. It establishes psychodesign as both a replicable design science and a decolonial methodology for mental health and spatial justice.
