Framework for Integrating Artificial Intelligence into Music Education in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not a new phenomenon in Nigeria; however, its application in formal education is still emerging. This study proposes a framework for embedding AI into music education programmes as a complementary innovation to the traditional, human-centred practices. Drawing data from recent literature and policy documents, the study identifies opportunities for AI integration and therefore offers classical guidance in music curriculum content redesign, pedagogical strategies, infrastructure, capacity building for educators, and ethical considerations. This framework aligns with the Nigerian tertiary education goals, the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, and UNESCO's recommendations for AI in education. It also contributes to the ongoing discussion on digital transformation in Africa's educational sector. The study advocates for a balance in education that ensures that AI enhances rather than erodes the core human connection of music education.
