International audience This article focuses on the presence of French writings in the Amazigh multilingualand multimedia literary continuum (the ‘Amazigh literary space’). The article beginswith a theoretical discussion of the relationships between ‘literature’, ‘literary field’and ‘literary space’. The article then considers the specific role of French in theAmazigh literary space starting with very first example of contemporary Amazighwriting, the emblematic case of Belaïd Aït Ali. By using the concept of the ‘Amazighliterary space’, we can examine the various linguistic and literary interactions andovercome the divisions that have historically separated literary works into differentdisciplinary horizons, such as Berber studies and ‘Francophone’ studies.
