The conflict in Sudan has created a deleterious situation for heritage protection across the country, especially in the case of museum and book collections in the Khartoum region and the west of the country (Kordofan, Darfur). This report outlines some of the trajectories of heritage destruction in the country, theoretical perspectives on the patterns of heritage destruction, and recommendations for NCAM and UNESCO on how best to predict antiquities trafficking and vandalism in the context of new conflicts.
