African peacekeeping training centers face a crucial moment amid UN reforms, budget cuts, and shifting international security priorities. This short study examines how key African centers – notably the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in Ghana, the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Kenya, and the École de Maintien de la Paix Alioune Blondin Beye (EMP) in Mali – can adapt to a likely decrease in UN peacekeeping deployments and funding. It also explores qualitative shifts in training focus and emerging requirements – including counterterrorism, environmental impact, artificial intelligence, and drones – and provides recommendations for donor states supporting these institutions.
