This is a data analysis project which makes use of transportation and fuel prices after May 2023, when the subsidy removal was initiated, to see the positive and negative impacts it had on the various modes of transportation, and also to look at possible solutions to those negative impacts # Analysis-of-The-Transportation-and-Subsidy-Removal-Effect-in-Nigeria This is a data analysis project which makes use of transportation and fuel prices after May 2023, when the subsidy removal was initiated, to see the positive and negative impacts it had on the various modes of transportation, and also to look at possible solutions to those negative impacts ## 📊 Project Overview This is my personal project, a data analysis based on research and simple data exploration using Python(pandas, matplotlib, numpy and seaborn). The goal is to examine: How much fuel prices changed and How transportation costs were affected The focus is on the period after the fuel subsidy removal in May 2023, so we can better understand its real-life impact, then look at the various possible solutions based on the analysis that can be made to curb the effects of the subsidy removal ## 🎯 Motivation As a computer science student and an aspiring data scientist, I am passionate about using technology and data to solve real-world problems. This project allowed me to apply my skills in Python and data analysis to a critical issue facing my country-Nigeria, bridging the gap between technical analysis and societal impact a key interest of mine in the field of AI policy. ## ⚙️ Technical Overview - **Tools:** Python, Jupyter Notebook - **Libraries:** Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn - **Data Sources:** National Bureau of Statistics(NBS) - **Methods:** Data Cleaning, Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA), Data Visualization, Trend Analysis. ## 📈 Key Findings below are some of my key findings Weak Correlation Between Petrol Price and Transport Fares: The correlation coefficients between petrol price variables ( MoM , YoY , Jun-23 ) and transport fares (Airfare, Bus, Okada, Water Transport) are generally low (close to 0). This suggests that increases in petrol prices did not translate uniformly into higher transport fares across all states and modes. Variation by Transport Mode: Airfare: Shows almost no …
