# Climate Trends in Nigeria (2000–2024)
This project analyzes rainfall and near-surface air temperature trends across Nigeria from 2000 to 2024 using CHIRPS Version 2.0 precipitation data and ERA5-Land monthly averaged 2 m air temperature. The analysis combines climate datasets with Nigeria state boundaries to produce climatological maps, time series, and spatial trend analyses.
CHIRPS precipitation data (0.05° spatial resolution) were obtained from the NOAA ERDDAP server, while ERA5-Land temperature data (0.1° spatial resolution) were accessed through the Copernicus Climate Data Store (CDS). Nigeria state boundaries were obtained from an ArcGIS FeatureServer. The project was developed primarily using Xarray, GeoPandas, Matplotlib, and SciPy.
# Project files
- `data_request.py` – Downloads the ERA5-Land, CHIRPS, and Nigeria state boundary datasets.
- `climate_analysis.py` – Processes the datasets, performs the analysis, and generates all figures.
- `report.pdf` – A two-page report summarizing the results and key findings.
