## About
Zambia's blockchain and Bitcoin ecosystem has grown from a handful of enthusiasts in 2021 into one of the most active, organised grassroots digital asset communities in Southern Africa — built by communities and educators, not institutions or government policy.
This report documents that growth across four parts:
1. **Grassroots Blockchain and Bitcoin Communities (2022–2026)** — 17 organisations, from Bitcoin Zambia and BitDevs Zambia to university and developer-focused hubs
2. **Service Providers, Tools, and Infrastructure** — the exchanges, wallets, and platforms making digital assets accessible to everyday Zambians
3. **Merchant Adoption and Circular Economies** — verified Bitcoin-accepting businesses across Zambia
4. **Observations and the Road Ahead** — what the data shows, and what needs to happen next
## Why This Report
Zambia's ecosystem has been under-documented relative to its actual activity. This report exists to:
- Give funders, partners, and media an accurate, current picture of the space
- Help communities coordinate rather than operate in silos
- Support Zambia's case as an emerging African blockchain development hub
- Create a citable, updatable public record of the ecosystem's growth
