Multi-Layer GIS-Based Recording and Visualization of Lassa Fever Outbreaks in Nigeria: A Pilot Framework for Dynamic Susceptibility Mapping Based on Environmental Drivers # Lassa Fever GIS Dataset – Nigeria Dataset and methodology for analyzing the seasonality of the Lassa virus in Nigeria, combined with weather data and geographic characteristics. ## Data sources - **Lassa fever cases (weekly time series, 2020–2025):** ncdc-lassa-fever-timeseries-2020-2025 - **Cases by State / LGA (annual basis):** NCDC Nigeria – Data - **Population and population density by area:** City Population – Nigeria - **Weather data (daily → weekly average):** Open-Meteo Historical Weather API ## Data structure | Worksheet | Content | |---|---| | `Data from NCDC` | Annual cases by State and LGA (2020–2025), from Nigeria's official site. | | `Nigeria Lassa` | Weekly cases (2020–2025), from Nigeria's official site. | | `Open meteo parameters` | Description of each weather parameter, coordinates of the LGAs used to source weather data, and the values as weekly averages. | | `Open meteo filter results` | Yearly average of weather parameters, separately for weeks with and without an outbreak. | ## Methodology ### 1. Analysis of weekly cases (2020–2025) Basic statistics (e.g. average weekly cases) were computed for each year, and weeks of viral outbreak were identified. An outbreak threshold of **25 cases/week** was used, corresponding to the maximum value of the annual average (2024). **Average weekly confirmed cases per year:** | Year | Average | |---|---| | 2020 | 22.45 | | 2021 | 9.82 | | 2022 | 20.03 | | 2023 | 24.44 | | 2024 | 25.21 (maximum value) | | 2025 | 21.32 | **Weeks with more than 25 cases, per year:** | Year | Weeks | |---|---| | 2020 | 2–12 | | 2021 | 8, 10, 11, 51, 52 | | 2022 | 1–11 | | 2023 | 1–12, 51, 52 | | 2024 | 1–11, 48–52 | | 2025 | 1–12 | ### 2. Identification of high-incidence areas (LGAs) For each year (2020–2025), the local government areas (LGAs) with more than 10 cases annually were identified from Nigeria's official site. **LGAs with the most cases, per year:** - **2020:** Owo, Akure South, Akoko, Ose, Etsako West, O …
