Land cover processing module of a scalable spatial data framework for CDR logistics (Google Earth Engine) # Spatial Data Framework for CDR Logistics – Land Cover Module (Nigeria Case Study) ## Project Context This repository is part of a larger intrapreneurial project aimed at developing a **scalable spatial data framework for mineral logistics in Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) systems**. The overall objective is to design a reproducible and extensible data infrastructure that integrates large-scale spatial datasets (e.g., land cover, deployment sites, environmental data) into consistent spatial grids for analysis. --- ## Current Scope (This Repository) This repository represents the **first module of the framework**, focusing on: * Processing ESA WorldCover land cover data * Aggregating high-resolution data (10 m) to coarser resolutions * Designing a reproducible geospatial workflow * Validating the approach using **Nigeria as a case study** This serves as a **proof of concept** for how large spatial datasets can be structured and transformed into analysis-ready formats. --- ## Role Within the Larger Project This module corresponds to the: **Deployment-site data processing layer** It demonstrates: * Spatial aggregation techniques * Data harmonization into consistent grids * Reproducible processing workflows The same approach will later be extended to: * Global datasets * Additional regions * Other CDR-relevant data categories --- ## Data Sources * **ESA WorldCover 2021** (`ESA/WorldCover/v200/2021`) * **FAO GAUL Administrative Boundaries** (`FAO/GAUL/2015/level0`) --- ## Methodology The workflow follows a structured geospatial pipeline: 1. Load Nigeria boundary 2. Load ESA WorldCover raster (10 m resolution) 3. Reproject to target resolution (1 km / 5 km) 4. Aggregate using majority (mode) classification 5. Clip to national boundary 6. Compute land cover area per class (km²) 7. Compute class shares (%) 8.
