VANTIX — African technology news, gadget intelligence, and AI-powered guidance. # VANTIX African Technology. Smarter Choices. Start there: - **frontend/README.md** — run the static site locally (needs the backend running too, as of Stage 5) - **backend/README.md** — set up Postgres, run migrations, ingest news, run AI processing, start the API ## Current state - **Frontend + public news experience (Stage 1 + Stage 5 + Stage 6 + Stage 7):** homepage (hero/featured + latest news + guides + reviews + category sections), a paginated "Latest" feed, publication-style category pages with a lead story, search, and long-form article detail pages with safe Markdown rendering and SEO metadata — all rendering real articles from the backend via a small reusable API client (`frontend/assets/js/api/`). `ai.html` is now the real VANTIX AI Assistant chat interface (Stage 7), not a placeholder. Gadget, login, and register pages remain Stage 1 placeholders (out of scope through Stage 7). Vanilla HTML/CSS/JS throughout, no framework, no build step. - **Backend (Stage 2):** FastAPI app with a PostgreSQL database via SQLAlchemy + Alembic. `Article` and `Category` models. - **News ingestion (Stage 3):** an automated pipeline (provider → validate → filter → deduplicate → store) that populates the `Article` table from real sources — RSS by default, NewsAPI optionally.
