The policy brief examines how strengthening teachers' digital literacy, pedagogical skills and capacity to integrate Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) into teaching and learning can contribute to improved educational outcomes and support progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4): Quality Education. The project recognises that expanding access to digital technologies alone is insufficient. Teachers need the knowledge, confidence, pedagogical skills, infrastructure and institutional support required to use technology meaningfully in classrooms. 🎯 Policy Problem African education systems continue to face challenges related to: Teacher shortages and uneven teacher distribution Limited opportunities for continuous professional development Gaps in teachers' digital literacy and ICT competencies Unequal access to digital devices, electricity and reliable internet Limited integration of ICT into classroom pedagogy Inadequate technical and institutional support for teachers Digital inequalities between urban and rural communities Weak alignment between teacher training and rapidly changing digital technologies These challenges can limit the ability of education systems to take advantage of digital technologies for improving teaching and learni …
