View the announcement on LinkedIn → ## The Problem The Sahel region is facing severe land degradation driven by a combination of climate stress and human pressures — erratic rainfall, population growth (~3% annually), overgrazing, deforestation, and unsustainable farming. In Mauritania's Assaba region, virtually all natural forest has disappeared due to decades of fuelwood cutting and agricultural expansion. Understanding these trends requires synthesizing diverse datasets (population, vegetation, precipitation, land cover) across time and geography — a task poorly suited to static reports. ## Solution Addax is an interactive web dashboard that lets researchers, policymakers, and NGOs explore two decades of environmental and demographic data across the Assaba region at the district and municipality level.
