This repository has the national mass gathering event atlas for public health preparedness and readiness measures # Ethiopian Atlas of Mass Gathering Events This repository hosts the **Ethiopian Atlas of Mass Gathering Events**, an open-source tool developed by the **CSID-NET Ethiopia Community of Practice**.\ The project maps **mass gathering events** across Ethiopia — capturing their **location, date, and anticipated number of participants** — and integrates this with **nearby health facilities** to support **public health preparedness and readiness**. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ## Features - Mapping of mass gathering events with date, location, and expected attendance.\ - Integration of nearby health facility locations to assess service readiness.\ - Static and dynamic maps for easy visualization.\ - Extensible design to incorporate additional layers (e.g., roads, accessibility, or new facility data). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ## How to Use 1. **Clone or download this repository** (including shapefiles).\ ``` bash git clone ``` 2. If you want to explore and run the full tool at the national level, open and run the `mge.r` script in R. 3. To directly explore the outputs, open the `/output` folder, which contains static and dynamic maps. 4. If interesetd in adding more events to the list, follow the template and add the events to `mge.xlsx`. we would kindly appreciate it if you contribute such changes to the repo. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ## Collaboration We are actively seeking collaborators to help enhance the tool by: - Adding **health facility location maps** with metadata. - Integrating **road accessibility layers**, so that facilities within a defined radius of events can be automatically linked with realistic access routes. - Contributing additional **mass gathering events** datasets.
